PA Alliance March 2017 Teacher Workshop
March 18, 2017
9:30 am – 3:30 pm
Are you looking for some professional development opportunities this spring? Interested in becoming a National Geographic Certified Educator? Want to incorporate an interactive/outdoor experience for your students this semester? If you answered yes to any of these questions, mark your calendar for Saturday March 18th. The PA Alliance for Geographic Education will be offering two half-day workshops at Shippensburg University.
The morning session focuses on attaining your Nat Geo Educator Certification (from 9:30-12:00). In this interactive session, share ideas on how you teach with a global and geographic perspective and learn about National Geographic’s new Learning Framework, which focuses on teaching students about the world and how it works, empowering them to succeed and making it a better place. This session counts as phase 1 of certification and you will be invited to be among the first teachers in the US to become Nat Geo Certified Educators. There is no cost to get certified, and phases 2 and 3 of the program can be completed at your own pace.
The afternoon session (1:00-3:30) will introduce the basics of conducting a BioBlitz with your students (all grades and disciplines) and provide resources, an introduction to iNaturalist, and how you cn document biodiversity in your school yard or local park by using GPS units (with cameras).
Plan to attend both sessions or just one, meet like-minded educators, and earn Act 48 credits. Lunch provided for those attending both sessions. Cost: $25 deposit, returned to you when you attend the workshop(s).
